If you are considering having a hair transplant, you are probably looking for information about which options you have, depending on your hair density and the size of the bald areas. Today we will try to explain the main differences between the two main techniques, which are based on the way the follicle units are extracted: FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction):

The FUT technique, also known as strip method

area, as a strip of the scalp is taken from the back of the head. Once it has been removed, follicular units are extracted. Each of these anatomical units is usually made up of 1 – 4 hairs. Generally, grafts extracted via the FUT technique are less sensitive compared to the FUE technique and consequently have a higher survival rate. The cost of produces a linear scar in the donor FUT and the time spent on the surgery is lower than FUE./FUT is cheaper than FUE and the surgery takes less time.

The FUE technique:

individual follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp, one by one. In general terms, FUE is better for patients that want to avoid a linear scar at all costs. It is also a good option for younger patients that only require minor treatment and for those with a tendency to extreme scarring. If you like wearing very short hair, FUE is also more suitable for you.
In summary, there is no one best or right method. Each of them has its own pros and cons. The decision should be made in consultation with the hair restoration surgeon.
